It all seems a bit negative

My boat has just failed its Boat Safety Inspection. The only debatable point is the negative battery engine battery to battery bank connection. I have a 90amp starter battery and two 110amp batteries. A split-charge solenoid serves both activated by the alternator warning light. I also have a negative cable linking the engine battery to the two service batteries.
