Boaters in France have organised a rally to protest against a six-year aqueduct closure. In 2006, the Canal de la Sambre a I'Oise was closed by Voies navigables de France (VNF) due to unstable foundations of the aqueduct crossing the river Oise at Vadencourt. Late in 2009, a local campaigning association, Canal SET (Sambre Eau Thierache), was set up to promote the use and reopening of the canal. By 2011, total funding of €11.3m for repairs had been found, but the deal fell apart. Since then, the stalemate situation has continued.
