'Car park' moorings for Thames

Car park-type mooring signs, charges and enforcement including £100 per day overstaying fees have been introduced at four locations on the Thames. Unlike the canal & river trust system, where boaters mooring casually on the towpath are subject to legislation including the 1995 British Waterways Act, the Environment Agency's rivers have no such legal framework. The EA has, therefore, chosen instead to follow the model of private car park operators who rely on contract law to impose charges.
