New sponsors for the canals

Partnerships with mapks & Spencer and River Canal Rescue have boosted the Canal & River Trust's hopes that its charitable status will encourage support from commercial sponsors. RCR, which provides an AA-style breakdown service for boaters, is to sponsor CRT's boat licence holders. In exchange for its contact details appearing on them, it is providing a grant of ￡5,000 to CRT funds. Meanwhile, M&S's contribution is in work as well as money. More than 1,000 of its employees will volunteer for canal clearance at 50 waterways locations as an extension of the annual M&S Big Beach Clean-up.
