摘要

The threat that the Growth & Infrastructure Bill would remove the special protection afforded to waterways land has receded a little, as the Government appears to be taking on board criticism from waterways interests. The 8ill aims to promote growth by reducing restrictions to development, including removing constraints on compulsory purchase orders. Currently three types of land (land held by statutory undertakers; land classed as open space; land held inalienably by the National Trust) require special parliamentary procedures before they can be compulsorily purchased. The first two of these (which between them cover the Canal & River Trust's waterways) are set to lose this status, but the third is to be kept.
