Occasionally oven the past few years there have been stories of customers.being left high-and dry when boat building businesses have ceased trading. And, for a few days, Toby Wheale and his wife, Susan Brown, feared the same thing was happening to them. They'd commissioned a boat from William Piper, which had twice won the title of Favourite Boat at the erick Show, having wowed people with stylish designs and the use of reclaimed timber. The shell for Toby and Susan's boat had been built, but work on the fit-out hadn't started when the directors of William Piper parted company and the firm closed. But they came up with a solution. Jim Birch had worked for Wiiliam Piper, doing much.of the joinery on 'the 2011 award-winning boat, Barollo. Toby and Susan had been impressed with his work, and asked if he would fit out their boat.
