摘要

A fund has been set up by boaters to aid a trader who has been in dispute with the Canal & River Trust regarding his small butcher's shop by Audlem Locks. Danny George has been operating George's Pork & Poultry Shop based in a former lock-keeper's hut by the Shropshire Union flight since three years ago, with a lease from the then navigation authority British Waterways. More recently, following changes of waterways staff, CRT has objected to his construction of an extra lean-to hut and use of extra land - which he says was agreed verbally with BW, but which was never formally written into the lease. Following a meeting it was agreed that he would submit plans for a replacement structure, but after a delay in Mr George submitting his plans and raising the necessary funds, CRT gave him notice to quit. Supporters of Mr George who feel that as a small trader he deserved better treatment have started a 'crowd fund', whereby people have pledged donations towards supporting whatever he needs to invest to satisfy CRT's requirements.
