Ready for Saul

Parades of boats, music, displays and craft stalls are among the attractions on offer at Saul Waterways Pageant, as the Inland Waterways Association completes its preparations. Filling the August Bank Holiday slot formerly occupied by the IWA National Festival, the Pageant aims to be a different kind of event - with free public entry, an emphasis on water- based and boaters' activities, and an objective of promoting the restoration of the Cotswold Canals (which will one day join the Gloucester & Sharpness at Saul). On the water there will be parades of lifeboats, a boat handling contest, illuminated craft, and displays by Severn Area Rescue Association. Meanwhile, on the land there will be a market, a boaters' quiz, a boat jumble on the Monday (boaters are invited to book a stall or bring items for sale on their behalf), and music.
