With the onset of spring, it's good to see a bit of colour coming to the waterways, as flowers and tree blossom brighten things up. But in a few places there have been reports of 'colour coming to the waterways' in a rather more literal manner. First, the water of the Huddersfield Canal at Standedge turned orange, as if the tunnel was impersonating Harecastle. The Canal & River Trust isn't sure what caused it, but thinks it may be iron deposits picked up by water running off the hills. Next, a dog-walker reported that the Wendover Arm had turned an eerie shade of blue-green, and this time CRT knew exactly what it was - the Trust's engineers using fluorescent dye to check for suspected leaks. Finally, over in Florida, a canal in Fort Lauderdale has turned bright green - and nobody knows why. "Not grass green, more like an iguana green", the local paper helpfully explains...
