"Don't feed ducks on bread, give them peas instead" is the message from the Canal & River Trust. CRT says bread is an unhealthy diet for ducks, and any left uneaten (and with 6,000,000 loaves' worth thrown in the cut every year that's quite a lot) can encourage rats and other undesirable creatures. Instead, the advice supported by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is to give them thawed out frozen peas, oats or corn - and to vary their diet.
