MIDDLE LEVEL REGISTRATION ON THE WAY

The Parliamentary Bill that will enable a registration (licensing) system to be introduced for the first time for leisure boats on the Middle Level Navigations has passed the final stage of the parliamentary process - other than the formal Royal Assent which will make it into law, and which was expected imminently as we went to press. In addition to registration, the Bill also allows the Middle Level Commissioners to remove sunken boats, and to require craft to have insurance and Boat Safety Scheme certificates. The actual registration charges and rules will not introduced by the Bill itself, but by bylaws which it permits the Commissioners to introduce.
