There is no doubt that today's packaged goods manufacturers are tied up in a fierce battle for survival, having to contend with the continuously shrinking shelves at their retail customers. The new realities of the current retail environment are forcing many of the established brands to compete for prime shelf locations with the private-label lines, while also having to contend with the larger new in-store trends brought about by the Big Box retailing revolution.
