Visitor attendance was down at theMICAM, held in Milan from March 2-5 .This was partly due to a nationwide public transport strike in Italy, as well as the situation in the Ukraine. Political uncertainties there, as well as the devaluation of the rouble deterred many visitors from Russia, the Ukraine and surrounding areas, which have become an important market for Italian footwear manufacturers. Despite these challenges, there were still 33,372 visitors, including 17,606 from outside Italy. Most of the foreign visitors were from Asia and North America, as well as Western Europe. They were enthusiastic with their admiration for the beautifully made women's shoes, featuring bold lines, modern geometric contrasts and masculine influences. Metallics were still present, as were animal prints on pointy toed flats, sneakers and all heights of boots. The British mood contin-ues for men, with interesting combinations of colour and materials.
