It is a commonly held belief that once a public disclosure of an invention has been made, the door on being able to apply for a patent is closed. This is true in the many jurisdictions (notably in Europe) known as absolute novelty jurisdictions, where, in general, the invention must not have been disclosed before a patent application is filed.
