Bridge-plate overpass helps skiers at Whistler

Whistler Mountain in British Columbia will be hosting an international winter sporting event in 2010. As part of the improvements to the ski run infrastructure, Whistler Mountain was faced with a challenging problem - how to permit the skiing public to safely pass unimpeded below a competitive women's downhill ski run. The solution - a ski overpass tunnel. This overpass tunnel would allow the competitors to ski over the structure while the general public could safely ski through the tunnel. Armtec was contacted by Coastal Mountain Excavations Limited (CME) to help develop a solution to the mountain's needs. Armtec, CME, Thurber Engineering Ltd. and R.F. Binnie Associates Ltd. formed a design, build and supply team to submit an economical and esthetically appealing solution to Whistler Mountain and other stakeholders.
