National Engineering Enrolment Trends

The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) has published a report entitled "Canadian Engineers for Tomorrow: Trends in Engineering Enrolment and Degrees Awarded 2001 to 2005." Based on this report, undergraduate engineering enrolment during the period 2001-2005 has increased by an average of 10.1%. Much of this increase is due to substantial growth in software engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering. It is worth noting that despite this unprecedented growth, the proportion of female undergraduate engineering students has declined consistently in most accredited engineering programs. A few programs saw increases in female enrolment, with civil engineering registering the largest increase (45%).
