The DBS playing field could change significantly should a deal get done for Liberty to exchange its stake in News Corp. for News'stake in DIRECTV, a possibility that emerged (once again) on 9/14. There has been speculation since 2004 that such a deal could unfold—with none done yet—but given slowing satellite sub growth and DBS's failure to date to present the market with a clear wireless broadband strategy, the timing could be more appropriate from News Corp.'s point of view.
