Liberty Media completes DirecTV deal

On the heels of regulatory approval from the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Liberty Media completed its deal with News Corp. in February for a controlling interest in DirecTV. The $12-billion deal was first announced in 2006. Under terms of the transaction, Liberty Media traded its 16 percent ownership of stock in Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. in return for News Corp.'s 39 percent stake in DirecTV. Aside from swapping shares, the deal also included $625 million in cash and three regional sports networks from News Corp. to Liberty Media.
