The production time lag of printed pub-lications makes it hard to be a good columnist. For readers' sake, a good columnist needs to fake the joyous mood of December some time in October, and detach from that joyous mood when writing in December for February's column. So if this article seems overly happy for the dreary end of January, you now know why.
