At the BCR VoiceCon Conference in February, Avaya announced a major repositioning of its approach to enterprise voice networking. While it has been offering IP-based products for nearly three years, it has now redesigned the Definity ECS architecture and stepped up its commitment to migrating customers to IP telephony. Avaya's next-gen IP-PBX platform has a client/server system design and incorporates Avaya's Definity common equipment and terminals. But at the core of the announcement is Avaya's new call-processing software solution, dubbed MultiVantage. It is available for Avaya's new server-based IP-PBX models, and also works with legacy Defini-ty/IP600 systems. MultiVantage comes in bundled offerings. The basic package contains the standard Definity features, while an "enhanced" basic package provides capability for enhanced conferencing, multi-location support, callcenter, cen-tralized voice mail and telecommuting.
