Rider Strider Scania Saved From Scrapman's Slicer

One of the first alexander striderbodied Scanias, former Yorkshire Rider 8601, has been acquired from First for restoration into its original 1993 livery. Alexander developed the Strider in cooperation with Yorkshire Rider, the privatised former West Yorkshire PTE bus company, hence the model name. The first were built on Volvo B1 OB chassis, of which Rider eventually had 30 in 1993/94, but 8601 was one of 55 on the Scania N113CRB and the first of these were built at the same time as six for Newport. First West Yorkshire began withdrawing the first 35 of these late last year and consented to the sale of what had become 61080 (K601 HUG) on condition that it is not used for commercial bus operation and is painted out of its Barbie livery.
