Scania Makes Strides In Asia...and Its Own Doorstep

Scania has secured significant new business in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and has ended the embarrassment of its home city in Sweden running only German buses. Kowloon Motor Bus is taking 30 K230UB single-deckers with Caetano bodywork, starting with twenty 10.6m versions and 10 to the 12m length favoured by most UK customers, for services in Hong Kong. Both lengths of the same model figure in a 152-bus order from the Malaysian island of Penang, where bus routes have been renationalised (Global News, May 2007). All but 30 of the locally bodied buses will be 10.6m models to negotiate narrow inner city streets.
