摘要

I feel I ought to offer Harry L. Barker (You Write last month) a few tips for him and his family on how to catch a bus. It really is quite simple. I have used the system for many years and always found it works.rnYou stand at a bus stop or any recognised stopping place and as the bus approaches you raise your arm and give a clear signal to the driver. When you see the driver indicate that he or she is pulling into the nearside this is a sign that he or she has seen you and realises you want to board the bus. You can now lower your arm. Simple.rnFrom seeing other people's experiences, rnthe bus will not stop, a) if you are standing 50m from the stop propping up a wall, b) hiding in the back of a bus shelter, c) as a bus approaches you turn away or step backwards, d) you continue to text or talk into your mobile, or e) you continue to sit on a bench or the pavement and cannot be bothered in some slight way to show that you wish to board.
