Shuttles required to circumnavigate major road works closures

Meanwhile, gas or water main replacement continue to leave much of London with road closures, diversions and delays. Some of the bus diversions are so far off normal route that replacement shuttle services are provided. One recent example was route 541 (Canning Town-Keir Hardie Estate), worked with a Stagecoach East London double-decker when neither the 147 (Ilford-Canning Town) nor 241 (Stratford-Canning Town) could serve the estate. Nearer my own home was another diversion and shuttle service when the 466 (Addington Village-Caterham-on-the-Hill) was diverted well away from its normal route between Coulsdon and Old Coulsdon.
