Rail feeder bus costs £17 per head

A rail-feeder bus route less than two miles long is receiving more than £17 subsidy per passenger, Bridgend Council has revealed. The authority's second most expensive tendered service costs only £5.95 per passenger. Bridgend is preparing to withdraw support for some bus services, because it expects new contracts to cost more than the existing ones and because its bus budget has dropped by £113,000. It pays £121,000 a year for the rail feeder from the village of Caerau to Maesteg station. This equates to £17.42 per passenger.
