The search for a next-generation double-decker bus for the German capital Berlin has begun with transport undertaking BVG inviting manufacturers to submit two low-floor prototypes for evaluation. Tender documents in the Official Journal of the European Union in line with EU regulations specify two technically identical two-axle Euro6 straight diesel buses built to BVG specification. Designs are to be submitted by 28 October and the undertaking says the aim is to make substantial savings in the weight, fuel consumption and running costs of future double-deckers.
