Many congratulations to my lifelong friend, London Transport, on your 80th birthday. Although you have changed your name a few times over the decades (LPTB, LTE, LTB, LTE again, LRT and TfL), I will always affectionately know you as plain old LT. It is heart warming to see you looking so spritely for an 80-year-old; indeed more active now than at any time in the past 40 to 50 years of your life. Much of this is down to the superb leadership you have enjoyed over the past decade through the unique and effective combination of one of the transport industry's most able professionals in Sir Peter Hendy working hand-in-hand with a charismatic influential Mayor committed to raising the profile of buses and successfully lobbying for public funding.
