I am not sure why I chose this trip as my last Day Anywhere excursion. Maybe it was because I would soon have to pay the adult fare of 12/6d (62.5p) or that I was to spend some of the forthcoming summer in France before I started in earnest on my A levels. However it was to prove the most adventurous and the only one that I nearly failed to complete. On paper, it looked like another journey to the outer reaches of the Midland Red empire — Ross on Wye was Red and White territory and Midland Red services south of Worcester were, even then, quite sparse.
