Kowloon Motor Bus started in 1933. it added its first double-deckers in 1949 and was the first operator in the territory to introduce air-conditioned vehicles and low-floor double-deckers. Its fleet has been entirely air-conditioned since 2012. Besides four main depots, many buses are parked overnight at outstations or termini. Tuen Mun depot is listed in The Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest bus garage, holding overt 1,000 vehicles. The logistical challenge of handling such volumes of buses at a single location sees some interesting practices. Fuelling takes place through Formula 1 -style high-speed Posilock equipment, and each multi-storey facility is equipped with several wash bays to ensure all vehicles are cleaned thoroughly every day. Chief engineer Kane Shum says air-conditioning has helped this through their lack of opening windows.
