Homecoming for last St Helens trolley

The last surviving St Helens trolleybus, 1950 East Lanes-bodied BUT 9611T 387 (BDJ 67), returns to the town in May to help mark the 60th anniversary of the closure of the trolleybus service on 30 June 1958.The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft has agreed to loan 387 to the North West Museum of Road Transport.The St Helens museum opens every weekend and 387 will be on display in time for Trolleybus 60, a two-day commemoration of the end of the trolleybus service on 30 June and 1 July.Several preserved St Helens motorbuses will provide free rides on former trolleybus routes on 1 July. The museum has invited several owners of St Helens buses to attend this event when it hopes all surviving roadworthy examples can be brought together.
