This year is the 30th anniversary of a simple innovation which, though now taken for granted, changed the way the European nursery stock industry operates. That innovation is the Danish trolley -or, more correctly, the "CC Container". From an originalbatch of 1,000 in 1976, there are now three million running around nurseries and garden centres in Europe and beyond, If they were all placed end-to-end, they would stretch from London to Baghdad. The trolley was Danish firm Container Centralen's (CC) first product line. It came about when a group of Danish growers and exporters, annoyed at the damage and costs caused by odd-sized containers, decided to commission a design for a single, multi-purpose trolley format, The original manufacturing contractwent to a now-defunct Danish firm, Variant Systemet.
