The Japan Times reports that an island off the west coast of Hokkaido in northern Japan could be host to a geothermal power plant that could deliver up to 25 percent of the community's electricity. Sources in the central and local governments say that there is a plan to build a 500 KWe geothermal power plant on Okushiri Island that could start operations as early as 2016.
