SCÉNARIOS ÉVOLUTIFS POUR LA MISE EN PLACE DE TRANSITIONS ÉCOLOGIQUES : EXEMPLE DU CYCLE VITAL DE L'ANGUILLE EUROPÉENNE (ANGUILLA ANGUILLA L.)

The life cycle of the European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) includes several ecological transitions, particularly the one from fresh to sea water, which generally precedes the reproductive migration to the Sargasso Sea. These events are preceded by a metamorphosis, the « silvering », the characters of which are analyzed: silvering results in both an anticipation (with regard to the migration conditions) and a conflict (towards fresh water). For the progressive establishment of this cycle, an evolutionary scenario is proposed, from marine elopomorphes spawning in a deep oceanic area. It implies several steps: acquisition of euryhalinity, introduction of the so-called « yellow » stage and then of silvering, and increase in migration length due to continent drift.%Le cycle vital de l'anguille européenne (Anguilla anguilla L.) inclut plusieurs transitions écologiques, en particulier celle d'eau douce en eau de mer qui intervient généralement avant la migration de reproduction vers la mer des Sargasses. Ces événements sont eux-mêmes précédés par une métamorphose, « l'argenture », dont les caractères sont analysés et qui se traduit par une anticipation (vis-à-vis des conditions de la migration) et par un conflit (vis-à-vis de l'eau douce). Pour l'établissement progressif de ce cycle on propose, à partir d'élopomorphes marins se reproduisant dans une zone océanique profonde, un scénario évolutif impliquant plusieurs étapes : acquisition de l'euryhalinilé, introduction du stade dit « jaune » puis de l'argenture, allongement de la migration de reproduction à cause de la dérive des continents.
