Federal Budget Actions Bring Long-term Highway funding bill and HOS Relief

Following years of uncertainty and 36 short-term extensions, a five-year, long-term highway bill was finally crafted as part of the 2016 government funding package passed by Congressional leaders and signed by President Obama late in 2015. The highway funding bill, called "Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act" or FAST Act, aims to improve the surface transportation infrastructure of the United States, including roads, bridges, transit systems, and rail transportation network. In addition to the Fast Act, the federal budget omnibus bill enacted on December 18th also included critically important Hours-of-Service (HOS) restart language, providing clarity and relief for drivers and carriers.
