Mining role for Tanzania's SGR

It has been announced that Tanzania's standard gauge railway (SGR), which is currently being built, is expected to carry 3.6M Mtpa of nickel ore. The ore will be produced at the Kabanga mine in Kagera region, near the border with Uganda. The line is being developed to connect Rwanda and possibly Burundi with the Port of Dar es Salaam, and was expected to generate most business from container, passenger and liquid bulk transport, but its construction is starting to make the development of known mineral resources economically viable.
