SNC-Lavalin awarded US$50M Chile contract

Canada's SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract by Compania Minera del Pacifico S.A. to provide overall management, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for a thickened mine tailings disposal system at the Cerro Negro Norte iron ore project in Chile. SNC-Lavalin's portion of the EPC "reimbursable contract" is estimated at over US$50M. The Cerro Negro Norte project in the Atacama Desert is expected to produce 20,000t of tailings per day. SNC-Lavalin will use its own "thickened tailings disposal technology" that separates the tailing and recovers about 98% of water.
