Handling more than 187 Mtpa of freight, it is crucial for the Port of Antwerp that its shipping lanes remain open. Regular maintenance dredging takes place, but because the available space to deposit dredged sediments has continued to shrink over time, alternatives needed to be found. The port authority and Flemish authorities decided to invest in a state of the art mechanical sludge dewatering plant that conforms to the latest ecological standards.
