Tanzania rail plan

Tanzania took one step closer towards becoming a significant coal and iron ore exporter in July, when the government announced plans for a new export railway. The line would run from the southwest, eastwards to the Indian Ocean port of Mtwara, which has long been underutilised. China's Sichuan Hongda plans to develop iron ore and coal mines in the southwest. The government statement now seems to rule out that production being exported via the existing Tanzania Zambia Railway (Tazara) and the port of Dar es Salaam.
