Enthusiasm over huge mine and rail projects in Mozambique and Botswana has overshadowed the more gradual development of the Zimbabwean coal industry. Although the country remains politically and economically fragile, new mines are being developed to supply coal to both the domestic power sector and consumers in other parts of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
