New line for Mozambique

Thai Mocambique Logistica has signed a deal with the government of Mozambique to construct a new coal export port and railway. The port will be built at Macuse, near the mouth of the Zambezi River and will be connected to the Moatize coal mines in Tete Province by a 525 km railway that will run roughly parallel to the river. Additional rail capacity is already being provided to take coal from Moatize to new coal terminals at the existing ports of Nacala and Beira. However, more export capacity is required and the government has opted for the Zambezi line. It has rejected plans to barge coal down the river on environmental grounds.
