Speculative housebuilding in Britain is often perceived as being part of the general construction industry. This is not the case: speculative housing might use many of the same resources as the construction industry, but the way it is organized and the way it operates are markedly different to construction. Fred Wellings's book explains all. Wellings worked in stockbroking as a construction and housing analyst for much of his career, ending up as research partner at Credit Lyonnais Securities. On retirement, he embarked on a PhD at the University of Liverpool, and this book is based on his dissertation.
