History of ASHRAE

ASHRAE was formed by the merger of two societies, American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers (founded in 1894), known after 1954 as American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (founded in 1904). The two merged in 1959.rnASHRAE has more than 160 chapters organized into thirteen regions and a region-at-large.rnASHRAE Chapters provide an opportunity for members to become involved in the Society at the local level. Members, who otherwise might not be able to participate into the Society level, can further their knowledge of the industry, network with others in the same industry, mentor younger members and contribute to their community at large through Chapter programs. Opportunities abound for active chapter members, even if they are unable to attend national meetings. Every year, each region hosts a CRC (Chapter Regional Conference) which allows members to meet and interact with national officers of the Society.
