Let's go slow for fast trains

Like anyone with a fondness for railways, my ears pricked up when I heard of government plans, championed by the happily named Lord Adonis, for a beautiful new high-speed line, along which trains will race up and down the country at 250mph.rnI'm not quite sure why anyone might feel the need to rush from Euston to Glasgow in two hours, but I like the idea of engineers, designers, railway staff and, yes, architects too, being put to the test shaping a new line. And if the idea is to curb inter-city flights and motorway traffic, all the better.
