U-turn on station designs

Plans for every station on the £15 billion Crossrail project are set to be subject to independent design review, Crossrail bosses have announced. The U-turn, announced at a London Assembly transport committee meeting last week, follows Crossrail's decision in December not to use a dedicated design review panel set up by watchdog Cabe on the 27 outer London surface stations. It had previously used the expert advice on its 10 new-build underground stations in central London. But Crossrail chief executive Andrew Wolstenholme said there was "an opportunity" that the 27 redeveloped surface stations on the line will now be externally reviewed. He added that he cared "passionately" about the design quality of the project.
