Walton and Sunbury residents have won a judicial review against Elmbridge Council's decision to approve the development of a sports centre. The residents, along with a hotel owner had their case approved by the Royal Courts of Justice. They claimed "unlawfully applied green belt policy" to approve the "large scale and wholly inappropriate development". Previously the site faced contamination issues. A spokesperson for the residents said: "Residents are concerned about the dramatic change of use from what was a scrub orchard. The floodlights and noise will have a negative impact on the local residents' lives quality of life, ruin the view and harm the wildlife."
