Northampton remediation completed

Hydrock has completed remediation at the University of Northampton's Waterside Regeneration project on a 22ha former power station and factory site. The company has remediated the site, together with the adjacent Ransome Road site for the Homes & Communities Agency. "Over a two-year period, we've taken a former power station and a major cosmetics manufacturing site, processed all the contaminated soils and old foundations and delivered a geotechnically suitable platform for future construction whilst addressing issues with large underground structures, invasive weeds, protected species and the relocation of a major substation for Western Power Distribution," said remediation business manager Gavin Broomfield. A deficit of material was addressed by importing material under the Definition of Waste Code of Practice and recent wet weather was managed by using stabilization techniques such as binders.
