"Darkness is fascinating and low light is challenging and extremely beautiful," enthuses Valentina Quintano. "I am fascinated by darkness - both as a concept, in terms of the dark side of the human soul, and as a practical issue, in terms of living in almost complete darkness as it happens during the polar nights. I had this idea in the back of my head for quite a while but it become real in the second half of 2011 when I started my research, and I shot it over roughly a month between November and December 2011."
