Aesthetic modification of the maxillary dressing plate for use during preimplant augmentation of the anterior ridge

In the maxilla, onlay grafts are stable with minimal resorption and no loss of density. There should, however, be a 4—6 months healing period before first stage placement of implants and a further period before loading and restoration of the implants. During this time the patient is without front teeth, which may have serious social and psychological effects. Provision of a stable, aesthetic, interim prosthesis can significantly improve patients' confidence and satisfaction. We describe a modification of the temporary dressing plate that can be used as a transitional prosthesis. This is a single stage laboratory technique that is applicable for most patients who have augmentation of the anterior maxillary ridge.
