Cone-beam Volumetric Imaging in Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine: Fundamentals, Diagnostics and Treatment Planning

The publication of a book on cone-beam volumetric imaging (CB VI) is timely given the increasing use of this methodrnof imaging in dental and maxillofacial radiology particularly within hospitals and specialist practice.rnAs the title suggests it is divided into three sections, Technology, Diagnostics, and Treatment planning, with a total of 16 chapters. The first section covers the development of cone-beam technology, image acquisition, processing and display, and the factors that influence image quality. The largest section (chapters 3-13) deals with diagnostics and includes chapters relevant to numerous dental specialities, particularly restorative dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and orthodontics. For example, there are chapters on pathological bone lesions, periodontal diseases, orthodontic diagnostics and traumatology. The final section, Treatment planning consists of three chapters: Implant planning, Intraoperative navigation, and Maxillary surgery using CBVI.
