SummaryBackground Oncogenesis in the oral cavity is believed to result from genetic alterations that cause a stepwise transformation of the mucosa to invasive carcinoma. In oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) multiple cytogenetic abnormalities have been reported, but their practical significance remains uncertain.
